《大帝國》中的基本資源共分為銀幣、木材、糧食、鑌鐵四種。在遊戲初期，最重要的資源就是銀幣、木材和糧食三種，它們各有妙用，缺之任何一種在遊戲中就舉步維艱。所以，初入《大帝國》，我們首要的任務，就是如真實歷史般大力修建民居、木場和礦場這三大出產以上資源的建築，囤積糧草輜重，備戰攻城掠地。
除了最基本的資源區（民居、木場、農田、礦場）建築產出，玩家們也可通過《大帝國》其他相關資源功能和活動獲得，如：政務事件、祭祀、集市等。此外，遊戲中部分武將擁有搶奪糧食等效果的獨特戰法，在資源匱乏的時候，可首選此類武將上陣殺敵，兩全其美地達成經驗、資源雙豐收。
四大資源各有其特殊功用，在整個實力發展過程中起著極其重要的作用。因此，我們需要根據不同時期的需求去合理分配和收穫資源，以備不時之需。

《大帝國》共計設有4種地形，分別為：水域、山地、平原、城池。部分將領擁有和地形對應的特殊戰術，在對應地形上威力較大。比如適應城池地形的華雄，在城池地形的戰場中，會出現特殊戰術“城池突擊”和“城池攻擊”，威力大於普通的突擊和攻擊戰術。
